GETTING TO THE FALLS

Livingstone Backpackers is only 8km away from the Victoria Falls, we offer free transfers daily at 10:30am. Collect a free map from our activity centre before leaving. There are plenty of taxis and minibuses at the Victoria Falls entrance for your return journey.

VISA REQUIREMENTS

Visas are required for most passports. Most visas can be purchased at the airport or border in United States Dollars cash – please confirm with your embassy whether it is advisable for you to apply for a visa before departure – you can also consult or why not check out the new UNIVISA, the KAZA visa allowing tourists to buy one visa and travel freely between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Please note that information posted can change without notice.

SEASONS OF THE FALLS & WEATHER

December to end March is the "rainy and wet season". Expect a lovely shower in the afternoons (not every afternoon though). The Victoria Falls are at its fullest between March and June. You will really experience the Majestic Falls during a walking tour or a flight over the falls. April to July is cool and clear with no rain. August to November is REALLY hot and may have a little cloud build-up but usually no rain until mid-November. The Victoria Falls are at its driest point this time of year and the beautiful gorge can be seen from above.

TAXI'S AND TRANSFERS

There are taxis to and from Kazungula (Botswana border) which cost about US$20 per taxi. Taxis to Vic Falls cost about US$6 per taxi and are available 24 hrs. Mini buses to the falls cost about US$1 per person, these don't really have a time table they kinda just leave when they are full.

MALARIA

Livingstone is in a Malaria area. However the amount of cases has dramatically decreased in the last few years. The hospitals here are able to treat you should you need it. The best precaution obviously is not to be bitten – wear long trousers and long sleeved shirts in the early morning and evening and wear insect repellent. Please consult your health care professional regarding prophylactics for malaria in advance of travel.

CURRENCIES

The local currency is Zambian Kwacha. There are numerous banks, ATMS and bureau de change located in the Livingstone town centre where you can get some kwacha. USD and Cards are accepted at the hostel but you will need Kwacha for taxis and shops. Travelers' cheques are not accepted anymore. For up to date exchange rates visit xe.com
